Activities in Detail

🌳 Family Picnic (10am-4pm)

The heart of the day! Find your spot around the Lake, spread out your blanket, and enjoy a relaxed day with family and friends.

What you’ll find:
• Open green spaces around the Lake for picnicking
• Community sharing: bring a plate to share with neighbours as they walk past your   picnic area!
• Complimentary scones, treats and lollies
• Welcome stickers for all participants at arrival

Tips:
• Arrive early for prime picnic spots
• Be prepared for weather contingencies – we’re talking about Melbourne, after all!
• Consider bringing outdoor games, books, or activities

🚶 Community Lake Walk (2:30pm)

A gentle, inclusive walk around the full 2.5km Lake circuit—the perfect way to experience our community together.

Details:
• When: Assemble at 2:15pm, depart 2:30pm
• Where: Lake shore access area
• Duration: Approximately 45-60 minutes
• Pace: Relaxed stroll, not a race!
• Accessibility: Paved paths suitable for all mobility levels

What to know:
• Dogs welcome (must be on leads)
• Volunteer leaders at front and back of group
• All fitness levels and ages welcome
• Feel free to chat with neighbours as you walk!

Can’t make 2:30pm? Walk the circuit at your own pace anytime during the day. But do so with pride and the Berwick Springs Community Love sticker! You’ll get yours upon arrival.

💙 Berwick Springs Love Ribbons
10am to 4pm

Share what you love about our community by writing a message on a ribbon and tying it to the bridge.
How it works:
1. Visit the Love Ribbons table near the bridge
2. Choose a ribbon (white, green, or blue)
3. Write your message with the markers provided
4. Tie your ribbon to the bridge railing
5. Take a selfie and share with the hashtag #BerwickSpringsLakeDay
6. Watch the installation grow throughout the day!
Message ideas:
• What you love about living in Berwick Springs
• What makes this Community special to you
• Your hope for our Community’s future
• A simple word or phrase that represents “home”
Note: Ribbons will remain on the bridge as a visible reminder of community voice and spirit.

🔍 Treasure Hunt (10am-4pm)

An educational adventure around the playground area exploring Berwick Springs’ heritage, environment, and community values.

How it Works:

1. Collect your coloured answer sheet at the START point (look for the main hub)
2. Find numbered cards positioned around the Berwick Springs (all within walking distance and no road crossings involved).
3. Complete the activities on your sheet
4. Return completed sheet to FINISH point
5. Receive your prize!

What you’ll learn about:

• “The Springs” historical name (used since the 1850s!)
• Over 25 years of community volunteer work
• The natural environment and ecosystem
• Community values like respect, consultation, and persistence
• Physical features and landmarks
Time required: 30-40 minutes depending on age and pace
Bonus: All answer sheets include “Community Voice” questions where you can share your ideas and hopes for Berwick Springs Lake!

Three Age Categories

🦆 Little Explorers (Under 5)

Simple observation tasks – Drawing activities – Tick boxes – Parent assistance expected

🔍 Young Discoverers (Ages 6-12)

Facts and calculations – Short written responses – Mix of observation and thinking questions – Can work independently or with family

🏛️ Community Historians (Ages 13+)

Reflection questions – Critical thinking – Community values exploration – Deeper engagement with local heritage

🎨 Kids’ Drawing & Painting (10am-4pm)

Creative expression for children in a designated activity zone near the picnic area.

Weather permitting:

• Sidewalk chalk on marked path sections
• Draw what you LOVE about Berwick Springs Lake
• All materials provided

If it rains:

Sheltered area with colouring sheets and drawing paper
• Take your artwork home as a souvenir
• Option to email completed drawings for community sharing

Supervision: Parents to supervise their young children, but volunteers are on hand to help!
