“It is obvious that residents and the broader community have known the place as Berwick Springs Lake. â€ś

“It is not a new place, and it was simply wrong not to consult locals about any naming or renaming of the lake. ”

Julian Hill, Federal Labour MP and Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs

25 Years of Community Work

Berwick Springs has been built by our community over 25 years. It was an inauspicious start, Council, Melbourne Water and three developers were at loggerheads about who was responsible for what. Residents, repaired infrastructure, improved the environment and advocated for improvements.
The Berwick Springs community welcomes all faiths and cultures to enjoy our lake, wetlands and park.

25 Years of Community Work

Berwick Springs is all about community, without the hard work of residents it is unlikely we would live in such beautiful, well maintained surrounds.

A Timeline of Government Failure

The first time residents of Berwick Springs knew of the Victorian State Government’s plans to rename Berwick Springs Lake was after the renaming ceremony had been held.

The Victorian State Govt failed to conform to the principles and statutory requirements of the Naming Rules. A worrying precedent.

One Community

Australia is founded on the principle of separation of state and and religion (as are other secular, democratic countries). Public landmarks are not named after founders of religions.

The move to change the name of Berwick Springs Lake breaches this fundamental principle. It is divisive, the opposite of-multicultural and sets a dangerous precedent.

You Can Help!

Now, more than ever, it is critical that you show your support for Berwick Springs Lake and the democratic principles the community is fighting for.

The Victorian State Government, with unlimited resources*, is determined to save face, rather than doing what is right by the community.

*Unlimited resources that we fund through taxation.
